Pilots

In order to fly one of your airplanes you need a pilot. A pilot can be hired through the "Personnel" section where available pilots for recruitment are listed. They may be either freshly graduated from the Academy or more experienced ones previously dismissed from other airlines but with higher flying time logged. Each pilot has a set of skills:

Correctness
Intelligence
Concentration
Coolness
Determination

The level of each skill ranges from 1 to 10 . Pilots just graduated from the Academy will not start with levels higher than 5. Higher the skill level , better your pilots will be (their salary will be in line with such level) whereas lower ones may be unable to cope with problems during the flight. Pilots receive a weekly salary paid every Sunday night, They also receive a salary bonus upon their recruitment and when dismissed before retirement age.

Skills

As mentioned before each pilot has a set of skills and each one of them has a specific meaning.

Correctness

A skilled pilot always follows accurately the rules set for ground operations, whereas an unskilled pilot tends to make mistakes that may be subjected to a pecuniary sanction (20% of probability) by the airport Authority.

Intelligence

Aircrafts may encounter adverse weather conditions that can delay the flight arrival. (see section “weather forecast” for details). Smarter pilots can reduce the effects of such conditions changing altitude and /or course. Furthermore with the best of their ingenuity they can help you save up to 5% of the total fuel originally required for that flight.

Concentration

A focused pilot can realize in time when fuel quantity is not sufficient to complete the flight or if the aircraft is about to develop some sort of mechanical failure being able to return safely to the airport of departure.

Coolness

In case of lack of fuel or mechanical malfunction not discovered before take- off a cool pilot can perform an emergency landing in a near alternate airport, thus saving the aircraft and himself.

Determination

A resolute pilot can limit aircraft damages whenever involved in an emergency landing.

Skill improvement and salary increase

Logged flight time as well as avoiding dangerous situations such as sanction or delays will automatically increase the pilot skill levels. Increases will be in a fraction of a point so they will not be noticeable until a new level is reached. Upon reaching a new level the pilot salary will be increased and the player will be notified in the “Company messages” section. Skills also increase be the product of the experience accrued in each flight. Like in the real world also at myAirline experience comes not only with courses but also with practice. Higher will be the class of the aircraft flown more experience the pilot will acquire.

Training courses

Every 250 hours of logged flight time pilots can attend a training course. This will increase of 1 level the skill to which the course is dedicated. The cost of each course is variable and will increase according to the level of skill that it will allow to reach. For example: a pilot with a level 2 in coolness can attend a course in “emergency management” that will cost € 15.000 and this will bring his coolness to level 3. The same course to bring the same skill to level 4 will cost € 20.000.
The academy allows pilots to follow a course in a faster way. Normally a course is available every 250 hours on a plane, but with the new system every academy level gives a 2.5 hours discount. For example, a company having a level 10 academy needs to wait only 225 hours between one course and another.

License

A pilot freshly graduated from the Academy cannot fly a Boeing 747 ! Soon every pilot will need a license to be in command of an aircraft. The license will allow the pilot to fly aircrafts belonging to the specific type and below for which the license is granted. For example, a pilot licensed for "G" type will be allowed to be in command of aircrafts from "A" through "G" type. Licenses will be granted according to the average of the pilot skills as follows:

License A: with skill average < 1,8
License B: with skill average >= 1,8 e < 2,1
License C: with skill average >= 2,1 e < 2,5
License D: with skill average >= 2,5 e < 3,0
License E: with skill average >= 3,0 e < 3,6
License F: with skill average >= 3,6 e < 4,3
License G: with skill average >= 4,3 e < 5,1
License H: with skill average >= 5,1 e < 6,0
License J: with skill average >= 6,0

The new system will be implemented at the beginning of October.

Pilots’ contract

Since today will be implemented the following changes about pilots: The pilot may have from a 1 to 5 pilot-years (51 days each year) long contract. Starting from last pilot-year of the contract (51 days before expiry) it will be possible to offer a contract renewal. The pilot will try to obtain a certain amount with a certain shelf-life, but it’s possible for you to counteroffer (he’s available to negotiate for a max of 4 times for a hired pilot and 6 times for a pilot coming from your academy. If all the proposals will be rejected the pilot won’t be disposed to negotiate with you and as the contract expires the pilot will be released from your airline. If the proposal will be accepted, the salary and the shelf-life of the contract will be updated according to it. The pilot expected salary and how much may be accepted as counteroffer are hidden parameters and vary from pilot to pilot according to pilot’s age. The longer the contract time you’ll propose to the pilot, the highest will be the expected weekly salary! This happens because you’re locking the salary for so much time! Basically (but it’s not always true) a pilot doesn’t want a salary lower than the previous!

Academy Pilots’ contract

Even when you hire a pilot you have to propose a contract with same renewal ways. Contracts for raised (academy) pilots Raised pilots automatically have a 5-pilot-years long contract with a basic salary. When they have to renew the contract, they will grant at most 6 renewal proposes. Furthermore they will have regard for you so they’ll generally ask you a 20% lower salary compared to normal renewals.

Pilots Age

Like everybody else also pilots get old. The pilot’s roster in the personnel section shows their age in years and days . At Myairline one year lasts 51 days (not 365 like in the real world), it means that every 51 days pilots will be one year older. As they are not expected to work forever, once they reach the age of 64 their Air Transport Pilot certificate will be revoked. As a consequence they will be grounded and be inactive at the Airline’s expense, unless you apply for their retirement. Should you decide to do so a dedicated link will appear in the “pilots” section that will retire the pilot at non further cost for the Airline.
